At Urban Health Plan, the well-being of our community’s young people is a top priority. Our Adolescent Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) is dedicated to addressing the unique health concerns of adolescents during this critical time of gaining independence. Led by Dr. Gladys Banegas, a specialist in adolescent medicine, our team of skilled doctors, nurses, and staff is committed to providing exceptional care and support for the social and health challenges teens face. The center also has a full-time case manager and health educator on-site for counseling.
Our mission at the AHWC is to equip our youth with the tools they need to grow into healthy adults and reach their full potential. We offer confidential healthcare services, including reproductive health care, in accordance with New York State law. Teens have the option to meet with their providers privately, ensuring their comfort and confidentiality. Routine annual check-ups are available, allowing teens and their guardians to maintain up-to-date health records for school athletics, summer camps, and other activities.
In addition to medical care, the AHWC is home to Club Teens in Action (T.I.A.), an after-school program for 12 to 18-year-olds. This program is designed to help adolescents navigate the transition to adulthood by providing them with the resources and support they need to achieve their goals. Club T.I.A. focuses on promoting positive adolescent development and cultural enrichment while also working to reduce teen pregnancies through self-development and self-discovery.
