In 2017, faced with the threat of reduced government services, Urban Health Plan and Casita Maria, a local and historical arts advocacy organization, were motivated to establish a body focused on fostering community resilience.
The Hunts Point Longwood Community Coalition (HPLCC) was born out of a need to:
- Engage in candid discussions about the wide range of local needs
- Collaborate
- Cross-utilize community programs and services
- Improve the quality of life of Hunts Point/ Longwood residents
Today, HPLCC members include the health department, community-based and social service organizations, the NYPD, and local elected officials. The Coalition meets monthly to focus on and advance progress on diverse issues such as youth development, employment, senior services, housing, homelessness, arts, education, health, and public safety.
