The Club Teens in Action (T.I.A.) is an afterschool program designed for 13 to 18 year olds to help them navigate the transition into adulthood. Its goal is to promote positive adolescent development, cultural enrichment, and reduce teen pregnancies.
The program focuses on self-development and self-discovery through workshops that cover writing, literature, math, self-expression, social discussions, family life, employment, nutrition, health/sex education, and more. Members also receive guidance on self-esteem, body image, reproductive issues, sexual health, mental health, and emotional issues. Mentorship is an important part of the program.
Members are paired with a UHP employee who serves as a “big brother or big sister.” They also engage in community service activities and peer education and mentoring to learn about positive self-esteem, creativity, leadership, and individual and team development. Additionally, they have opportunities for internships within UHP to gain professional and personal growth. Club TIA also offers self-development workshops, tutoring, homework help, parent workshops, support groups and community outreach to neighboring schools.
